BIOGRAPHY

Christopher Pierre (born December 5), commonly known as Krys is a Haitian-American singer-songwriter, and educator. He rose to fame in 2001 as a solo artist with the release of his debut solo album, “I Love You,” produced by Eddy St. Vil from the well-known Haitian musical group, Zin.  The album garnered much success with a music video four singles: I Love You, Pran m (featuring Nia Mahotiere), Rosie, and Taisha.

Krys’ musical background began when he started singing in his early teenage years with his family’s church choir, but never truly enjoyed it because it was imposed on him by family members and perceived it as an extra-curricular activity.  Twice a week Krys attended choir practice and sang on Sundays.  He was a very shy young boy who had never fathom the thought of becoming a Compas/Zouk singer in his lifetime.

Krys’ professional singing got in full swing when he was a college sophomore while attending City University of New York, York College.  One early morning while riding the train to attend classes along with his close friend, Maggie Desgrottes, they began to sing a duet composed by Zin and ironically Zin’s manager, Salazar Jean Baptiste a.k.a Zaza, was on the train listening to him in his friend.  They sung “Lanmou Sa”, which was a major hit at the time.  He approached them and complimented them on their singing.  He then invited the two friends for a visit at Zin’s recording studio located on Church Avenue in Brooklyn.  Krys and his friend were extremely excited.  They proceeded to go to school and upon arrival they boasted to their collegial mates about their encounter with Zaza.  On the day of their visit, Krys met with Alan Cave, Alex Abellard, and Eddy St. Vil.  The crew requested that Krys and his friend serenade them with one of their own songs. Krys sung “Matcho Siwo” and “Lanmou Sa” with his friend Maggie D.  They were impressed.  However, Krys did not quite trust that the men truly liked him and his friend’s singing until later on when Alex requested that they both come back and perform background vocals on a few tracks that they were recording for their next album “Yo Pou Zin.”  Since then, Krys has sung background on subsequent albums produced by Zin, including Shirley Desgrottes and numerous other artists and bands.  In 1994, Krys sung “W ale” at Alex Abellard’s 1st annual birthday bash singing contest and won first prize.

Krys’ second solo album, “Breakup To Makeup” is sure to create a buzz and have everyone reminiscing because this time on his return to the music scene, he collaborated with some of the prominent musicians in the HMI today.  The album features musical productions by Krys, Jbeats, Kenny Desmangles, Armstrong Jeune, and Michael Celestin (aka Kika).  Featured vocalists: Alexandra Pernier, Nia Mahotiere-Louis, Armstrong Jeune, Jerry Longchamp, Wilnic Colin, and Larry Legend. The album will be released in November 2013.
