Haiti Polo Captain Named “Hot, Haitian and On Fire” By Sidelines Magazine

 

Previously published by the Haitian TImes Sidelines Magazine, one of the nation’s premier lifestyle magazine for the equestrian community, featured for the first time a polo player from Haiti. Ambassador Claude-Alix Bertrand, captain and founder of the undefeated Haiti polo team and Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti, graced the cover of their December issue titled “Hot Horseman 2014.”

The article titled “Hot, Haitian and on Fire” shares his long road to recovery after he suffered several traumatic injuries from falling off a horse several years ago.The polo star explains during the interview how he overcame those fears with the help of his coach Eric Wright and his passion for the sport.

“The scars on our bodies heal much faster than the scars in our memory,” Bertrand says. He also reveals to Sidelines Magazine his contribution in promoting his homeland Haiti in a positive light through a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism. Bertrand will assist with the promotion and development of a polo resort, spa and 

Formula One race track in Côtes-de-Fer, Haiti.

“We are thrilled to feature polo player Claude-Alix Bertrand who makes for a festive cover for our Hot Horseman December issue,” Jane Westmark, editor in chief of Sidelines magazine says. Polo is one the fastest growing spectator sports in the world and it’s the first time a Haitian athlete is featured on the cover of a prestigious polo magazine.

Bertrand founded the Haiti polo team in February 2014. Since then the team has won three consecutive international polo tournaments in Shanghai, China; San Francisco, California and Cordoba, Argentina.
