BIOGRAPHY

Vocalist Pauline Jean is one of the world's brightest lights. She is making a huge impression on thousands of listeners with her thrilling live shows, versatility and well-conceived debut recording. A native New Yorker of Haitian descent, Pauline sings in English, French and Kreyòl. She offers her own fresh approach to every song. Known for her sophisticated blending of traditional Haitian roots with the contemporary, Pauline’s eclectic repertoire also includes original compositions, as well as unique arrangements of the beloved standards and blues. Pauline's range is reminiscent of the earthiness of Sarah Vaughan and the electrifying voltage of Nina Simone, yet she infuses songs with her unique interpretations and style. The stages of world-renowned clubs, jazz festivals and venues in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean have been graced with Pauline’s presence. She has performed at concerts in Lebanon, Switzerland, London, Finland, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Nevis Island and at the Blue Note, Iridium and Lincoln Center in New York. Between international and local engagements throughout the U.S., Pauline can be seen performing in the tri-state metropolitan area. Whether singing with a trio, quartet or a stellar band of women instrumentalists, each one successful in her own right, Pauline’s performances are spellbinding. Her heartfelt and thoughtful concerts honoring Nina Simone are met with acclaim. Pauline’s “melodious contralto voice… unfailingly takes you on an emotional ride.” (Peter Quinn, Jazzwise)
